Call of the Unknown God: Joseph

Home > News & Events, Pastor's Notes > Call of the Unknown God: Joseph

This year we are exploring God’s call on the Patriarchs and Matriarchs of Genesis.  The call of YHWH begins with Abram and his family.  Abram knows nothing about this deity, yet heeds the call, and, in the journey, discovers more and more about who this God is that called him.  We have traveled through the family to Joseph.  This journey has taken us from Ur, through Paddan Aram, into Canaan, and now Egypt.  It’s not our first experience with Egypt.  Sarai’s maidservant, and Abram’s second wife, was from the Egyptian Court.  Ishmail, Abram’s half Egyptian son, married an Egypt woman – likely from a Pharaoh’s household as well. Esau’s third wife is 3/4 Egyptian.  We find ourselves in the midst of God’s providential care for Joseph as he marries an Egyptian woman, the daughter of one of the most important priests in Egypt.  Two tribes of Israel will emerge from this marriage – Manasseh and Ephraim.  The formation of this family continues as a unique emergence of Akkadian/Sumerian and Egyptian lines.

Over the next few weeks we will continue to explore God’s guidance and use of Joseph for the sake of God’s plans.  We will see ancient customs come to life, explore kingdoms and timelines; all while prayerfully considering how God’s providential care is guiding our lives.  I hope you will join us.
